About 2 / 3 of the wounded and all the sick soldiers are again ready for service after a reasonable period of time, so that there were irretrievable losses of 677,000 men in the army in the east in 12 months.
The exceptional losses from the surrender of the 6th Army at Stalingrad (the prisoners would otherwise have to count as additional missings for March 1943) was not taken into account.
The effective strength of the German Army in the east was decreasing over this period by 250,00 man, from 3.1 million on November 1, 1942 to 2.85 million on November 1, 1943.
